Emmanuel Petit has warned Cesc Fabregas to steer clear of Chelsea, describing the club as a 'mess' and a 'nightmare' for managers. The former France international believes a return to Barcelona would be the best move for Fabregas's career.
Fabregas Linked with Chelsea Job
Fabregas, currently managing Como, is among the candidates to replace Liam Rosenior, who was sacked as Chelsea head coach on Wednesday after five consecutive league defeats without scoring. Under-21 coach Calum McFarlane has taken over as interim manager.
The 38-year-old former Chelsea midfielder has impressed at Como, leading them to promotion from Serie B in 2023 and a ninth-place finish last season. They currently sit fifth in Serie A, potentially qualifying for the Champions League.
Petit's Advice: Choose Barcelona
Petit, who played for both Chelsea and Barcelona, told Andy's Bet Club: 'If you have to choose between Chelsea and Barcelona, definitely you go to Barcelona, not Chelsea. Chelsea is a mess. It's a nightmare for managers and players. At Barcelona, you will find more serenity and a chance to compete for La Liga and the Champions League.'
He added: 'Fabregas going back to Barcelona would make sense. Spanish managers are the best on the market right now. His story is not over yet. Como has come from nowhere, and if he can't take them further, maybe it's time to move.'
Fabregas Committed to Como
Despite the speculation, Fabregas has reiterated his commitment to Como. At the Enzo Bearzot Award ceremony, he said: 'I am very committed to this project. Right now, it's very unlikely I'll leave. I'm happy with what we've achieved, and my family is happy in Como.'
Fabregas signed a four-year contract as permanent manager in 2024, keeping him at Como until 2028. However, his success has attracted interest from Europe's elite, including Barcelona and Chelsea.
