Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is reportedly not interested in joining another Premier League club, despite Tottenham Hotspur expressing interest in signing him this summer. According to inews, the 28-year-old England international is holding out for a move abroad, either a return to Barcelona or a switch to Bayern Munich, who have previously shown interest.
Rashford's loan spell at Barcelona
Rashford spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Barcelona, where he scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions. However, the Catalan club opted not to make the move permanent, instead signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in an €80 million (£69.3 million) deal last month. Rashford had a €30 million (£25.8 million) purchase option in his loan agreement, but Barcelona decided against triggering it.
Tottenham's pursuit
Tottenham are looking to strengthen their squad with proven Premier League talent this summer, and Rashford is a primary target. However, Spurs are reportedly unwilling to meet his £40 million release clause and are hoping to negotiate a lower fee with Manchester United. Rashford's preference to leave the Premier League could complicate their efforts.
According to the report, Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi is a huge admirer of Rashford and is playing a key role in the club's transfer activity. De Zerbi is also targeting Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali as one of his key summer signings.
Barcelona's rejected loan bid
Barcelona have attempted to bring Rashford back on a second loan deal, but Manchester United rejected the proposal, insisting on a permanent sale. United are preparing for Rashford's return after England's World Cup campaign concludes.
Rashford's World Cup involvement
Rashford is currently with England's squad at the World Cup. He came off the bench to score in England's 4-2 victory over Croatia on June 17, 2026.
