In a move that underscores his rapid rise, Tottenham Hotspur's teenage prospect Yang Min-hyeok has reportedly attracted serious interest from Spanish titans Real Madrid.
From Korean Prodigy to European Target
The 19-year-old South Korean winger only completed his move to North London at the start of 2025, having agreed terms with Spurs in July 2024 after being named Player of the Year in the K-League with Gangwon FC. Hailed as a prodigy and a potential successor to national icon Son Heung-min, Yang's development path was swiftly mapped out via the loan system.
His first taste of English football came with a short but promising spell at Queens Park Rangers, where he made 14 appearances in the latter part of the 2024/25 season. This campaign, he moved to League One side Portsmouth, where he has continued to flourish, registering two goals and an assist so far.
Pompey Praise and Growing Reputation
Portsmouth manager John Mousinho has been effusive in his praise for the young attacker. In early December 2025, when asked if Yang had exceeded expectations, Mousinho told The News: "I think so... he probably has exceeded expectations".
He elaborated on Yang's impact, stating: "We’ve still got very high hopes for Min-hyeok, and we’re really pleased with where he’s at. He can definitely influence games off the bench, but he’s done both. He started games and also influenced things off the bench. At times, he’s started and looked very bright for us."
Real Madrid's Reported £6m Move
According to reports from Spanish outlet Defensa Central, this consistent development has not gone unnoticed at the Santiago Bernabéu. Real Madrid are said to be "closely watching" the player due to his "immense potential" and are reportedly readying a bid in the region of £6 million to tempt Tottenham into a sale.
It remains unclear whether such an offer would be tabled in the upcoming January transfer window or during the summer of 2026. Despite his loan successes, Yang is yet to make a competitive first-team appearance for Spurs, though he did feature in Thomas Frank's pre-season preparations, including a match against Newcastle United.
Tottenham's stance is believed to be resistant, given the high regard in which the club holds the teenager. There is even speculation from Tottenham Hotspur News that the club could recall Yang from his loan at Portsmouth in January to reassess his development, potentially sending him to a different club to ensure he receives optimal playing time.
Manager Thomas Frank previously highlighted Yang's promise, stating this summer: "The potential is good. It will take a lot of effort for him to grow further. However, I have high expectations." The coming weeks will reveal whether Real Madrid's interest materialises into a formal test of Tottenham's resolve to keep their emerging star.
