Bukayo Saka is expected to be back in the Arsenal squad for their Premier League clash with Newcastle United. Saka has not featured since the Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City in March, sitting out of all five games since the end of the international break. Arteta revealed earlier this month his winger is dealing with an Achilles injury. While it had been hoped he might be available for last weekend's showdown with City at the Etihad, Saka was once again left out of the squad.
Arsenal are still fighting on two fronts with the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid looming next week. And in a huge boost ahead of that game and the visit of the Magpies, Arteta has confirmed Saka is likely to be in contention to return this weekend. He told a press conference on Friday: 'Bukayo is probably going to be in the squad. So good news.'
Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori update: Timber meanwhile has not played since coming off in Arsenal's win over Everton in March, sitting out of the last seven games due to a groin problem. Arteta has remained tight-lipped on the Dutchman's recovery and confirmed on Friday his right-back will not be in the squad this weekend.
Arteta has been without both his first-choice full-backs with Riccardo Calafiori not playing since the first leg win over Sporting CP. The Italy international is however in the frame to return against Eddie Howe's side. 'Riccardo in the squad, Jurrien not,' Arteta said.
