Sancho Tells Dortmund He Wants Return After Man United Exit

Jadon Sancho has told Borussia Dortmund that he is open to returning to the club after leaving Manchester United this summer, according to reports in Germany. The 26-year-old winger, who joined United in a £73 million deal in 2021, has struggled to make a significant impact at Old Trafford and spent the current season on loan at Aston Villa. United decided earlier in the campaign that Sancho would be allowed to leave as a free agent, with the club eager to remove his £300,000-a-week salary from their books. They will decline the option to extend his contract for another year to protect his value.

Sancho's Talks with Dortmund

According to Sky Germany, Sancho has already held discussions with Dortmund, and during the latest round of talks, he indicated his keenness to return. The report adds that Sancho has received numerous offers from around the world, but Dortmund must now decide whether to proceed with the transfer. Dortmund head coach Niko Kovac has also approved the club's push to re-sign Sancho this summer.

Sancho's Previous Stint at Dortmund

Sancho initially joined Dortmund in an £8 million deal from Manchester City in 2017 and enjoyed the best years of his career in Germany. He scored 17 league goals in the 2019-2020 campaign and was named in the Bundesliga's Team of the Season. During a loan return to Dortmund two years ago, he helped the club reach the Champions League final, where they were beaten by Real Madrid.

Dortmund's Interest Confirmed

Speaking earlier this month, Dortmund's sporting director Lars Ricken confirmed the club is considering a move for Sancho in the summer window. 'We are currently looking at a lot of players and analyzing them. We check whether they can make us better. We are doing the same with Jadon,' Ricken told Sport Bild. 'Of course, we are looking for an offensive player who brings quality, can help us immediately, and doesn't require an unrealistic transfer fee. In defense, Niklas Sule is leaving us, and Emre Can will be out for a while. So we are thinking about that area as well.'

Sancho's future remains uncertain, but a return to Dortmund appears increasingly likely as both parties show mutual interest in reuniting.
