Diego Simeone is confident that Julian Alvarez will be available for the second leg of Atletico Madrid's Champions League semi-final against Arsenal next week, despite the forward sustaining an ankle injury during the first leg.
Alvarez Injury in First Leg
Alvarez scored a penalty to earn Atletico a 1-1 draw at home on Wednesday night, canceling out Viktor Gyokeres' first-half spot kick for the Gunners. However, the Argentina international was forced off with 13 minutes remaining after a challenge from Eberechi Eze left him in visible pain. He was later seen walking on the pitch after the final whistle.
Other Injury Concerns
Atletico also have concerns over Giuliano Simeone and Alexander Sorloth, who picked up injuries during the match. When asked for an update on the trio, Simeone stated: 'Well, knowing them, they’ll definitely be there on Tuesday. I don’t think there will be anyone that will not be playing on Tuesday.'
He added: 'I suppose they might be feeling some physical discomfort now. Giuliano from a knock, Julian from the fall he had in the middle of the pitch and Sorloth with a hamstring strain, but I have no doubt they’ll be there.'
Upcoming Fixtures
Atletico are scheduled to face Valencia in La Liga on Saturday before the second leg against Arsenal next Tuesday. Simeone's optimism will be a boost for the club as they aim to reach the Champions League final.
