Los Angeles 2028 Olympics Ticket Sales Set for April Launch with Budget-Friendly Options
The Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games are scheduled to commence on July 14, 2028, marking a major global sporting event on the West Coast. In a significant announcement, LA28 organizers have revealed that ticket sales for the general public will open on April 9, with a presale for residents in qualifying areas of Los Angeles and Oklahoma City starting on April 2. Oklahoma City will host softball and canoe slalom events, adding to the regional excitement.
Affordable Pricing Strategy for Olympic Tickets
LA28 has introduced a pricing structure designed to enhance accessibility, featuring 1 million tickets available at a low cost of $28. This initiative aims to make the Games more inclusive for a broad audience. According to organizers, approximately 5% of tickets will be priced above $1,000, while more than 75% of all tickets, including those for finals, will cost under $400. Additionally, nearly 50% of tickets will be available for less than $200, ensuring a range of options for fans.
Allison Katz-Mayfield, LA28's senior vice-president of Games delivery revenue, stated, "Tickets are comparable to and in many cases well under what we see for other professional sporting and major entertainment events in the US." This pricing approach follows criticism of high costs at other major events, such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where ticket prices have drawn scrutiny for being prohibitively expensive.
Enhanced Ticket Security and Verified Resale Platforms
To address concerns over ticket fraud and unauthorized sales, LA28 has implemented a robust security framework. Primary tickets will be sold exclusively through official providers, AXS and Eventim, starting with the public sale in April. Organizers have warned fans against purchasing from unverified sources, emphasizing that any LA28 tickets offered for resale before 2027 should not be considered legitimate.
In 2027, LA28 will launch a verified multi-platform resale programme, with AXS and Eventim serving as the official secondary ticket marketplaces. Additional verified platforms will include Ticketmaster and Sports Illustrated Tickets, providing fans with multiple secure access points. Reynold Hoover, LA28 chief executive officer, explained, "While LA28's resale platforms will not be launched until 2027, having a variety of platforms was critical to providing fans multiple points of access to verified tickets."
Preparations and Public Engagement
As organizers gear up for the initial ticket release, they are actively promoting awareness to prevent scams and ensure a smooth purchasing process. The announcement underscores LA28's commitment to delivering a secure and enjoyable experience for attendees, aligning with broader efforts to host a successful and memorable Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
