Canary Wharf to get 50m natural water pool and saunas in 2026
New natural water swimming pool approved for Canary Wharf

Planning officials have given the green light to an ambitious new outdoor swimming facility in London's Docklands. A floating, natural water swimming pool will be constructed within Eden Dock at Canary Wharf, creating a unique wellness destination in the heart of the capital.

A New Urban Oasis for Swimmers

The centrepiece of the development will be a substantial 50-metre, six-lane pool that uses filtered water from the dock itself. Designed by the team behind Sea Lanes, the facility aims to bridge the gap between traditional indoor pools and open-water swimming. It will be open to the public for 364 days each year, catering to swimmers of every age and ability.

Beyond the main swimming area, the project includes several premium wellness features. Two saunas, powered entirely by 100 per cent renewable energy, will offer post-swim relaxation. A dedicated community clubhouse will host year-round wellness events and provide food and drink. Notably, a wetsuit concierge service will be available to assist swimmers.

Supporting the Eden Dock Regeneration

This aquatic project is a key part of the ongoing transformation of the Eden Dock area. The water quality, which is regularly tested against stringent EU Bathing Standards and consistently achieves an "Excellent" rating, ensures a safe and clean environment for swimmers. The development is seen as a bold step in enhancing Canary Wharf's green and blue public spaces.

Joe McNulty, Director at Sea Lanes, expressed his enthusiasm: "We’re thrilled to bring a National Open Water Swimming Centre to the heart of Canary Wharf. Sea Lanes Canary Wharf will be more than just a swimming pool – it will be an urban oasis for health and wellbeing set within the green and biodiverse waterfront."

Construction Timeline and Access

The project has a clear timeline, with construction scheduled to begin in early 2026. The grand opening is planned for the summer of 2026. To make the facility accessible, two payment models will be offered: a flexible pay-per-swim option and a membership scheme.

Shobi Khan, CEO of Canary Wharf Group, highlighted the broader vision: "Almost one year on from the opening of Eden Dock, we’re making another bold step forward. Sea Lanes Canary Wharf will build on the success of Eden Dock as a unique wellness destination, where access to nature, leisure and world-class amenities are seamlessly integrated."

This new facility promises to offer Londoners a rare opportunity to swim in clear, natural water without leaving the city, fostering a deeper connection with nature and community right in the bustling financial district.
