Heathrow Passenger Admits Drunken Threats and Assault on Delhi Flight

A man has admitted to shouting "I want to fight you" at airline crew and assaulting a paramedic while intoxicated on a plane at Heathrow Airport. Yogeshwar Sharma, 50, entered guilty pleas at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on Friday for a series of offenses committed on November 25 last year.

Chaotic Scene on Outbound Flight to India

Police were summoned to the outbound flight destined for Delhi, India, after airline staff reported a "drunk and abusive male on the aircraft." According to prosecutor Kate Fassam-Wright, Sharma became aggressive when informed he was too intoxicated to fly, directing profanities and threats toward the crew.

The court heard that Sharma, a resident of Lansdowne Road in Ilford, refused to disembark the aircraft. In defiance of regulations, he produced a lighter and began vaping after being explicitly told smoking was prohibited.

Escalation and Physical Assault

After being escorted from the flight, the situation deteriorated further. Sharma attempted to spit at police officers and then lunged toward a paramedic with a clenched fist, making contact with the paramedic's chin. This act constituted a common assault charge among his admissions.

Sharma's intoxication stemmed from consuming a full litre of vodka combined with two doses of a prescribed medication prior to boarding, rendering him with no memory of the incident. The court was informed he now expresses profound disgust at his own behavior.

Legal Proceedings and Pending Sentencing

Magistrate Manbhinder Rana acknowledged Sharma's guilty pleas to all four charges: entering an aircraft while drunk, using threatening behavior, common assault of a paramedic, and smoking on a plane. Sentencing was deferred to March 4 at the same court to allow for a pre-sentence report detailing Sharma's personal circumstances.

Until that date, Sharma has been released on unconditional bail. This case highlights ongoing challenges regarding passenger conduct and security protocols at major international hubs like Heathrow Airport.
