Superloop SL14 Express Bus Service Officially Approved for East London, Set to Launch in 2027
Transport for London (TfL) has officially confirmed the launch of a new Superloop express bus service in east London, marking a significant expansion of the rapid transit network. The SL14 route will provide a high-speed connection between Stratford and Chingford, with operations scheduled to commence in 2027. This announcement follows a successful public consultation and underscores TfL's commitment to enhancing outer London transport options.
Route Details and Service Specifications
The SL14 will travel between Stratford Bus Station and Chingford, making key stops at Leyton Station, Walthamstow Stadium, and other major points along the way. Service will run seven days a week, from approximately 5:00 AM to 12:30 AM, with buses arriving every 12 minutes during daytime hours from Monday to Saturday. During evenings, Sundays, and early weekday mornings, the frequency will adjust to every 15 minutes. Like all Superloop routes, the SL14 will utilize modern double-decker buses equipped with USB ports for passenger convenience.
Public Consultation and Community Impact
The approval of the SL14 comes after a public consultation conducted at the end of last year, which revealed strong community support. According to TfL, 83 percent of respondents indicated that the new route would be more convenient than existing services, while 81 percent agreed it would significantly reduce journey times. This feedback highlights the anticipated benefits for residents and commuters in northeast London.
Adjustments to Existing Services and Future Plans
With the launch of the SL14, adjustments will be made to the current D8 bus service, which runs between Crossharbour and Stratford Bus Station. The D8 will be rerouted to terminate at Stratford City Bus Station, providing improved access to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Westfield Stratford City. Looking ahead, TfL plans to introduce additional Superloop routes, including the SL13 between Ealing Broadway and the SL15 between Clapham Junction and Eltham, with consultation outcomes expected soon.
