A young girl has tragically died three weeks after being struck by a car in South London, leaving her family in what police describe as 'unimaginable pain'.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The incident occurred on Tooting Bec Road in Streatham, Lambeth, shortly before 1pm on December 12. The 11-year-old victim was taken to hospital in a critical condition following the collision. Despite medical efforts, she sadly passed away on Monday, January 5.
Emergency services, including police and paramedics, rushed to the scene near the junction with Garrads Road. Photographs from the day show a police cordon in place, blocking traffic flow towards Tooting Common.
Police Investigation and Arrest
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a 54-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving and driving under the influence. He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Bond, who leads policing in the area, stated: 'The victim’s family are going through unimaginable pain, and our thoughts remain with them at this time.'
