Metropolitan Police officers have launched a public appeal for witnesses following the tragic death of a 94-year-old man in a collision with a van in Hackney. The incident occurred at the junction of Alkham Road and Cazenove Road in Upper Clapton on Thursday, February 12, at 3:46 p.m.
Victim Identified as Ismail Bham
The pedestrian, later identified as Ismail Bham, was struck by the van and rushed to hospital with serious injuries. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on Monday, February 23. His family is currently receiving support from specially trained police officers during this devastating time.
Driver Remained at Scene, No Arrests Made
The van driver involved in the collision remained at the scene following the incident. As of now, no arrests have been made, and police enquiries are actively ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the collision.
Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
Detective Sergeant Ed Rulton of the Met's Serious Collisions Investigation Unit emphasized the importance of public assistance in this investigation. "Our thoughts remain with Ismail's family and friends at this extremely difficult time," he stated. "As we work to build a complete picture of what happened, we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, particularly those with CCTV or dashcam footage."
