A 38-year-old man has been apprehended in Northern Ireland in connection with a serious alleged hit-and-run incident in South-East London that has left an elderly pedestrian fighting for her life.
Details of the Lewisham Collision
Police were called to Southend Lane in Lewisham on October 31 following reports of a collision. A 65-year-old woman was found with serious injuries. The Metropolitan Police confirmed on Sunday that the woman remains in a life-threatening condition in hospital.
Cross-Border Arrest and Charges
The suspect, identified as Michael McLaughlin from Heath Park, Buncrana, in the Republic of Ireland, was located and arrested by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) on a motorway on Friday. He was subsequently escorted to England for questioning at a police station in South London.
McLaughlin has been formally charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road traffic collision. He is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Officers from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit continue their investigation and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. They are asking anyone with information to contact police on 101, quoting the reference number 9111/31NOV.
