A mother has issued a devastating tribute to her 'special boy' after her 16-year-old son died following a collision with a car in Manchester.
A Fatal Evening in Burnage
Alfie Moran was struck by a vehicle in the Burnage area of the city at approximately 6.40pm on Friday, 2 January 2026. Emergency services rushed the teenager to hospital with serious injuries, but he sadly passed away.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that an 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident. He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries as the investigation continues.
A Family's Heartbreaking Loss
In a poignant statement released through the police, Alfie's mother remembered her son as a young man with the 'biggest heart'. She said her 'Alfie boy' was always their special child and that everyone who knew him would tell her she had the best boy.
"He was the best friend to everyone, losing him has left our family broken," the tribute continued. The family had many plans for the year ahead, with Alfie described as a keen gamer and motorbike enthusiast who had already begun saving to buy his first bike.
His mother concluded: "I will forever be lost without him."
Police Investigation and Community Appeal
Detective Constable Antrobus, from GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, described the event as a tragic incident and extended his thoughts to the grieving family, who are being supported by specialist officers.
The detective also appealed directly to the public for information, acknowledging the shock and sadness the local community would be feeling. GMP is urging any witnesses, or anyone who was in the Burnage area around the time of the collision, to come forward to assist their ongoing investigation.
The police have asked for the family's privacy to be respected as they mourn their profound loss.
