White Van Hits Mum and Baby in Surrey Hit-and-Run, Police Appeal
Mum and baby hit by van in Surrey fail-to-stop crash

Police in Surrey have launched a public appeal for witnesses after a young mother and her baby were struck by a van that then drove away from the scene.

Early Morning Collision on Godstone Road

The serious incident occurred on the A22 Godstone Road in Whyteleafe, Surrey, at approximately 6.45am on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. According to officers, a white van collided with a woman in her 20s who was walking with her infant.

Emergency services treated the mother and child at the roadside before taking them to hospital as a precautionary measure. Authorities have confirmed the driver of the van failed to stop following the collision.

Urgent Appeal for Footage and Witnesses

Surrey Police are now urging anyone who saw the event or who may have captured it on camera to come forward immediately. A police spokesman stated: ‘We are appealing for witnesses following a fail-to-stop collision in Whyteleafe.’

Investigators are particularly keen to obtain any relevant CCTV, dashcam, or helmet camera footage that could help identify the vehicle and its driver. The force has asked the public to get in touch with any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem.

Past Tragedy Highlights Dangers of Reckless Driving

The shocking event in Surrey comes less than two years after another devastating case that underscored the fatal consequences of dangerous driving. In 2024, Darryl Anderson was jailed for 17 years for causing a horrific crash on the A1 that killed eight-month-old Zackary Blades and the infant's aunt, Karlene Warner, 30.

Anderson, who was three times over the drink-drive limit, had photographed his speedometer at 141mph moments before the impact. The collision propelled Zackary from the vehicle, and his mother, Shalorna Warner, later recounted the trauma of finding her 'rainbow baby' on the roadside.

Ms Warner's heartrending court testimony described the 'irreparable hole' left in her life, serving as a stark reminder of the human cost of such incidents.

Anyone with information regarding the Whyteleafe hit-and-run is asked to contact Surrey Police without delay.
