North Circular Faces Fortnight of Major Disruption for Urgent Sewer Repairs

Thames Water has announced that urgent sewer repairs will cause significant disruption on the North Circular in West London later this month. The essential work is scheduled to begin on Saturday, February 14, and is expected to last for up to two weeks.

Details of the Repair Work and Traffic Impact

Engineers will be fixing a collapsed sewer pipeline on the eastbound section of the A406 ring road. The repair operations will take place between 8am and 8pm daily, with some night-time activity where necessary. This is likely to result in long delays towards Brent Cross and will significantly impact the Hanger Lane Gyratory System.

To facilitate the repairs, lanes one and two of the junction from Hanger Lane heading eastbound onto the North Circular will be closed, while lane three will remain open. London bus services along this affected section will be suspended for the duration of the works. However, access to the Travelodge slip road will remain available via a designated diversion route.

Thames Water's Statement and Mitigation Efforts

Neil Levy, Thames Water's field operations specialist, commented on the situation, stating: "Our purpose is to deliver life’s essential service. We know this is a particularly busy route for motorists, and we recognise that the works are likely to cause significant disruption."

He added: "We apologise in advance for the disruption we will cause and are working hard to minimise the impact by scheduling the activity to overlap with school half‑term, but traffic will be considerably heavier than usual. We’re encouraging drivers to avoid the route where possible or allow extra time for their journeys during this period."

The repair work is crucial as it will reduce the risk of flooding to residents and businesses in the surrounding area. Over 2,000 residents have already been notified of the works, and Thames Water staff will be visiting impacted businesses to provide further information and support.
