A Metropolitan Police officer was struck by a vehicle on Friday morning while attempting to secure the scene of a serious crash in West London. The incident led to an eight-hour closure of a major road in Ealing.
Early Morning Collision and Subsequent Incident
The initial crash occurred at approximately 4.45am on Friday, January 2, on Uxbridge Road in Ealing. The collision involved two cars, with one vehicle suffering significant damage, including having its roof torn off. Emergency services believe this was likely a result of the fire brigade's rescue efforts rather than the impact itself.
A woman in her 20s, who was involved in this first collision, was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service. Her injuries were assessed as not life-threatening or life-changing.
Officer Struck While Protecting the Scene
While police were at the scene setting up a safety cordon, a third vehicle crashed into an officer. The injured officer was rushed to hospital by police colleagues. Fortunately, their injuries were also confirmed as non life-threatening or life-changing.
No arrests have been made in connection with either collision, and police enquiries are ongoing. The Metropolitan Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward by calling 101 and quoting reference CAD 890/2Jan.
Major Disruption and Investigation
The dual incidents caused significant disruption throughout the morning. Uxbridge Road was closed between Warwick Road and North Common Road (Ealing Common) for almost eight hours while accident investigation work was carried out.
Transport for London diverted bus routes 207 and SL8 during the closure. A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service confirmed they were called at 4.46am and treated one patient at the scene before conveying her to hospital.
The police continue to investigate the circumstances of both collisions on this busy West London thoroughfare.
