Kent Police have launched a public appeal to trace two men following a fatal road collision in Gillingham that claimed the life of a pedestrian.
CCTV Images Released in Investigation
Officers have released closed-circuit television footage showing two individuals they urgently wish to speak with. The images depict both men wearing dark clothing with their hoods up. One man appears to be running, while the other is seen carrying what is believed to be a vehicle registration plate.
Details of the Fatal Incident
Emergency services were called to the A289 at Gads Hill in Gillingham at approximately 12:10pm on Monday. A male pedestrian received treatment from paramedics at the scene but was later pronounced dead.
The force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit is leading the enquiry and has made a specific request for footage. They are asking the public to submit any dashcam or CCTV video showing a grey Mercedes estate car.
Police Appeal for Information
Detective Inspector Zoe Wilczek of Kent Police provided a statement on the ongoing investigation. "While we appreciate the quality of these images isn't crystal clear, we are still in the early stages of our investigation and thank everyone who has provided images and witness accounts so far," she said.
"We urge anyone with relevant information regarding the incident or these men to get in touch with us."
Road closures remain in effect as investigators continue their work at the location. Pier Road is currently closed between The Strand and Gads Hill.
The tragic event adds to the national statistics on road safety. According to the latest government figures, 409 pedestrians were killed in Britain in 2024, with a further 5,823 reported as seriously injured.
