The family of a retired midwife have paid a heartfelt tribute after she was killed in a collision at a supermarket car park in Greater Manchester.
A Life Cut Short in Supermarket Tragedy
Margaret Crichton, 78, was walking back to her car at the Asda store in Oldham when she was struck by a van on December 18. The incident, which occurred earlier this month, left the pensioner with significant injuries.
Emergency paramedics performed CPR at the scene before rushing Margaret to Salford Royal Hospital. Despite their efforts, she sadly passed away in hospital the following day, December 19.
Family Remembers a 'Beautiful Soul'
In a moving statement, Margaret's grieving family honoured her memory. They described her as 'a beautiful soul taken from us too soon', a dear sister, friend, aunt, and great aunt who will be 'sadly missed by all who knew her'.
The family's tribute paints a picture of a beloved woman whose sudden loss has left a profound void.
Inquest Opened and Investigation Ongoing
An inquest into Margaret's death was opened and adjourned at Rochdale Coroners' Court. The brief hearing revealed that Margaret, originally from Wallsend in Northumberland, was a resident of Shaw, Oldham.
It was also confirmed that she had dedicated her career to helping others, working as a retired midwifery tutor at the University of Manchester.
A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving in connection with the incident. Greater Manchester Police's investigation remains active, and the coroner has adjourned proceedings until its conclusion.
The local community and former colleagues are now coming to terms with the loss of a respected and cherished member of their community.
