Kent Police have made two arrests following a fatal road traffic collision in Gillingham which claimed the life of a pedestrian in his 80s.

Details of the Fatal Incident

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday 30 December 2025. According to police, the elderly man was initially struck by a grey Mercedes estate on the A289 Gads Hill in Gillingham, Kent, just after midnight.

The force reported that the victim was carried along the road by the vehicle. He was later found on Grange Lane in the town. Paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service provided treatment at the scene, but the man was pronounced dead a short time later.

CCTV Images and Arrests Made

As part of their investigation, detectives released CCTV footage appealing for information. The images showed two hooded men dressed in dark clothing on a pavement. One of the individuals appeared to be running while carrying a number plate.

Following the release of this footage, Kent Police confirmed the arrest of a 29-year-old man from Chatham and a 28-year-old man of no fixed address. Both men remain in custody for questioning in connection with the crash.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have stated that one of the men seen in the CCTV images is still being sought by officers. Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
