The tragedy unfolded just after midnight on Monday 30 December 2025. According to Kent Police, the elderly male pedestrian was initially struck by a grey Mercedes estate car on the A289 Gads Hill in Gillingham. The force reported the man was carried along the road before being found on Grange Lane in the town.

Paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service provided emergency treatment at the location. Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police Investigation and CCTV Appeal

In response to the incident, detectives have released closed-circuit television images as a crucial part of their investigation. The footage shows two hooded men dressed in dark clothing on a pavement. One of the individuals appears to be running while carrying a number plate.

A 29-year-old man from Chatham and a 28-year-old man of no fixed address have been arrested in connection with the crash. Both remain in police custody for questioning.
