Two teenagers have tragically lost their lives following a single-vehicle collision in Kent over the weekend, with police now launching an urgent appeal for witnesses.
Details of the Fatal Incident
A 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl were pronounced dead after the blue Ford Fiesta they were travelling in came off Old Ferry Road, near the village of Iwade. The incident occurred at approximately 8.30pm on Saturday, 3 January 2026.
Emergency services, including officers from Kent Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics, and Kent Fire and Rescue Service crews, rushed to the scene. A second 16-year-old girl, who was also in the vehicle, received medical treatment at a hospital and was later discharged.
Ongoing Investigation and Road Closures
The road was closed for a significant period between the junctions with Raspberry Hill Lane and Sheppey Way to allow for a thorough forensic collision investigation. Police have confirmed that these closures will remain in place while their inquiries continue.
Investigators are now working to establish the full circumstances that led to the car leaving the carriageway. As part of this process, they are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the vehicle prior to the collision or who has relevant dashcam or CCTV footage.
Appeal for Information
Kent Police have issued a public appeal for information to assist their investigation. A spokesperson stated: "We are urging any witnesses, or anyone with dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident, to come forward. Any detail, no matter how small it may seem, could be vital."
The community in Iwade and the wider Swale area has been deeply affected by the loss of two young lives. The identities of the teenagers have not yet been formally released by the authorities.
