A two-year-old boy from London has tragically lost his life just days before Christmas following a serious collision on the A1 motorway.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The incident occurred on Saturday, December 20, at approximately 6.20pm on the northbound carriageway near Peterborough. According to Cambridgeshire Police, a Toyota Auris carrying six people, all from London, had broken down in a live lane.
A Volkswagen Touran then collided with the stationary vehicle. The young boy, aged two, suffered fatal injuries. The five other passengers in the Toyota were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Arrest and Police Investigation
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 64-year-old man from Peterborough, sustained only minor injuries. He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He has since been released on bail and is required to return to the police on March 20. The investigation is ongoing, and officers are urging witnesses to come forward.
Sergeant David McIlwhan stated: "Our thoughts are with the parents and family of this young child who has tragically lost his life in this collision. The family is being supported by specialist family liaison officers."
