West London drivers are bracing for substantial disruption throughout March as six major road closures take effect across the borough of Hillingdon. These closures, mandated for essential utility works, will impact traffic flow significantly, with one closure stretching for an extensive 106 days.
Utility Works Drive Widespread Closures
The closures are necessary to facilitate critical infrastructure upgrades by utility companies, including Thames Water, Cadent, and Affinity Water. While not all closures will require formal diversion routes, motorists should prepare for delays and plan alternative journeys accordingly.
Longest Closure: East Avenue in Hayes
The most prolonged disruption will occur on East Avenue in Hayes, where a gas main replacement project by Cadent will force a closure lasting 106 days. This closure is scheduled from 8am on Monday, March 9, until 5pm on Monday, May 25. A diversion route will be established via East Way and Coldharbour Lane.
Key Closures and Diversions
New Windsor Street, Uxbridge: This road will be closed from the junction of The Lynch to Trumper Way to allow Thames Water to conduct cabling works. The temporary restriction runs from 9pm on Monday, March 9, to 5am on Friday, March 13. Diversion routes will direct traffic via Oxford Road, Denham Roundabout, Denham Road, and Church Road.
New Years Green Lane, Harefield: A shorter closure is planned here from the junction of Harvil Road to Breakspear Road South, effective only between 9am and 5pm on Sunday, March 22. A temporary diversion will route vehicles via Harvil Road, Church Hill, High Street, Breakspear Road North, Northwood Road, White Hill, London Road, Rickmansworth Road, Ducks Hill Road, and Breakspear Road.
Ickenham and West Drayton Impacts
In Ickenham, water mains replacement works by Affinity Water will affect two locations:
- Breakspear Road South (Service Road 64–114 Copthall Road West): Closed from 8am on March 30 to 5pm on May 27, with no diversion route in place.
- Copthall Road West at Breakspear Road South: Closed during the same period, with a diversion via St George's Drive and Greenacres Avenue.
Bellclose Road, West Drayton: This road will close from Brandville Road to Kingston Lane for water mains replacement from 8am on Tuesday, March 31, to 5pm on Thursday, April 2. A diversion route will be available via Brandville Road, Porters Way, Station Road, and Kingston Lane.
Planning Ahead for Commuters
Residents and commuters in Hillingdon are advised to check local traffic updates regularly and allow extra travel time during these periods. The closures highlight the ongoing need for infrastructure maintenance in West London, albeit at the cost of temporary inconvenience for drivers.
