Emergency services rushed to a busy Wimbledon road this morning after a crash left a woman injured and requiring hospital treatment.
Emergency Response and Road Closures
The incident occurred at the junction of Merton Road and the A219 near Colliers Wood just before 9am on Monday, January 5. London Ambulance Service paramedics were on the scene within four minutes of receiving the alert, treating the incident as a priority. The woman was subsequently taken to hospital for further care.
As a result of the collision, a section of The Broadway – a major thoroughfare lined with shops and bus stops – has been partially shut. The closure affects the stretch from Trinity Road to Merton Road and Latimer Road, causing significant disruption to morning traffic.
Transport Disruption and Bus Diversions
The closure has forced several bus routes to divert from their normal paths. Commuters are advised that the following Transport for London services are affected:
- Bus 57
- Bus 93
- Bus 131
- Bus 219
Drivers are being urged to avoid the area if possible and to seek alternative routes while emergency services and recovery operations continue at the location.
Ongoing Investigation
The Metropolitan Police are leading the investigation into the circumstances of the crash. Officers remain at the scene managing traffic and conducting initial enquiries. A spokesperson for the force has been contacted for an update on the woman's condition and the progress of their investigation.
Witnesses or anyone with information, including photos or dashcam footage, are encouraged to come forward to assist police with their inquiries.
