Transport for London has officially confirmed a comprehensive list of line closures set to disrupt travel across the capital this weekend, specifically on Saturday, April 11, and Sunday, April 12. Passengers are advised to plan ahead as multiple services will be partially or fully suspended due to essential track work and maintenance operations.
Key Underground Line Closures
Among the most affected routes, the District line will be completely out of action between Edgware Road or Embankment and key destinations including Ealing Broadway, Kensington (Olympia), Richmond, and Wimbledon on both days. This closure is particularly significant for football fans, as it will impact supporters traveling to Chelsea's Premier League match against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, scheduled for 4.30pm on Sunday. Attendees are strongly recommended to use alternative routes such as the Piccadilly line to Earl's Court or Mildmay line services to West Brompton or Imperial Wharf to avoid delays.
Additional Tube Disruptions
Beyond the District line, other London Underground services will also face interruptions. The Circle line will have no service between Edgware Road and Tower Hill via Victoria throughout the weekend, with passengers urged to utilize alternative Tube lines or local bus routes. Additionally, the Piccadilly line will suspend its Night Tube service between Hyde Park Corner and Acton Town overnight on Friday, April 10, until 7am on Saturday, April 11, with Night Bus or rail replacement services available as substitutes.
Overground and Elizabeth Line Impacts
The disruption extends to London Overground and Elizabeth line services as well. On Sunday, April 12, the Lioness line will cease operations between Euston and Kilburn High Road after 10pm, while the Mildmay line will halt between Camden Road and Stratford after 10.15pm, with Tube or local bus alternatives suggested. The Elizabeth line will experience no service between Paddington and Ealing Broadway until 7.45am on Sunday, alongside a reduced service to Maidenhead and Heathrow, prompting commuters to seek Tube or bus options.
DLR and Strike Warnings
Further compounding the weekend's travel woes, the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) will be closed between Bank or Tower Gateway and Poplar or West India Quay on both Saturday and Sunday, with passengers directed to use Tube, Windrush line, Elizabeth line, or local bus services. In a separate development, Transport for London has issued a stark warning about impending Tube strikes scheduled for April 21-22 and April 23-24. These 24-hour strikes, set to begin and end at midday, are designed by the Rail, Maritime and Transport union to maximize disruption, though the Overground, Elizabeth line, DLR, and National Rail services are expected to remain unaffected.
All closures have been meticulously planned in advance to facilitate critical maintenance work, ensuring long-term network reliability. Travelers are encouraged to check for updates and consider alternative transport arrangements to navigate the anticipated chaos smoothly.
