London Tube and Train Closures: Full Weekend Disruption List

London Braces for Major Travel Disruption This Weekend

Londoners and visitors planning to explore the capital this weekend of March 28-29, 2026, face significant travel challenges as Transport for London (TfL) implements extensive closures across several key services. The disruption coincides with the start of the Easter school holidays, adding complexity to family outings and leisure activities.

Multiple busy TfL lines will be completely or partially shut, including the Elizabeth Line, Metropolitan Line, and several Overground routes. In a major blow, Liverpool Street National Rail station will also close entirely for the weekend, severely impacting connectivity in the city center.

Detailed Line-by-Line Closure Information

Elizabeth Line: On both Saturday March 28 and Sunday March 29, there will be no train service between Stratford and Shenfield. Additionally, on Sunday March 29 only, no trains will operate between Paddington and Ealing Broadway until 7:45 AM. Elizabeth Line services will continue to run through Liverpool Street station, but access to the main concourse will be prohibited.

Metropolitan Line: A complete service suspension between Wembley Park and Aldgate will be in effect throughout the entire weekend.

DLR (Docklands Light Railway): Significant closures include no trains between Bank/Tower Gateway and Canning Town/Lewisham, plus no service between Stratford and Canary Wharf on both days.

Overground Network: The Weaver Line faces a whole line closure between Liverpool Street and Cheshunt, Chingford, and Enfield Town. Similarly, the Liberty Line will be completely shut. The Mildmay Line will have no trains between Willesden Junction and Richmond on Sunday only. The Windrush Line experiences disruption on Sunday with no service between Highbury & Islington and multiple southern destinations including Battersea Park, Clapham Junction, Crystal Palace, New Cross, and West Croydon.

Additional Tube Service Disruptions

Piccadilly Line: Eastbound trains will not stop at Barons Court station until June. Passengers traveling eastbound are advised to go one stop west to Hammersmith and then bounce back east.

District Line: Mirroring the Piccadilly Line situation, eastbound trains will also skip Barons Court until June, with the same workaround recommendation via Hammersmith.

Waterloo and City Line: This line remains closed on weekends as per its regular schedule, though questions persist about the long-term future of this weekend closure policy.

Replacement Services and Alternative Travel Options

To mitigate the impact, TfL has arranged replacement bus services for affected Overground routes. Buses will replace Weaver Line services between Seven Sisters and Enfield Town/Cheshunt, and between Hackney Downs and Chingford.

Travelers are strongly encouraged to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra travel time, and consider alternative transport modes where possible. The disruption comes during a culturally rich weekend in London, with major exhibitions at the V&A and British Library, plus the return of Somerset House's Assembly series, making advance planning particularly crucial for those attending these events.
