Commuters across the capital are facing a difficult morning journey on Tuesday, 6th January 2026, with significant disruption reported on several key London Underground lines. Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed severe delays affecting the Elizabeth and Piccadilly lines, alongside minor delays on the Metropolitan and Bakerloo lines.
The widespread issues are due to a combination of factors, including an electrical fault, a signal failure, train cancellations, and engineering works overrunning. Passengers are being strongly advised to check their journeys before setting off and to allow considerable extra time for their travels.
Elizabeth Line Hit by Electrical Fault
The Elizabeth line is experiencing some of the most severe problems this morning. Severe delays are in place between Reading and Paddington, as well as between Heathrow Airport and Paddington. TfL has attributed this major disruption to an electrical fault, which is severely impacting services into and out of central London from the west.
While services are operating normally on the rest of the line, passengers travelling to or from the affected western sections should prepare for significantly longer journey times and potential last-minute cancellations.
Piccadilly and Metropolitan Line Disruption
The Piccadilly line has also been badly hit. Severe delays are reported between Acton Town and Uxbridge, with minor delays on the branch between Acton Town and Heathrow Terminals. This follows an earlier signal failure at Acton Town station, the effects of which are still being felt across the network.
To assist stranded passengers, TfL has confirmed that tickets for the Piccadilly line are being accepted on relevant London Buses and Great Northern rail services.
Meanwhile, the Metropolitan line is facing minor delays across its entire route. This is a result of a late finish to planned engineering works, meaning trains may be less frequent than usual, particularly during the busy peak periods.
Ongoing Issues and Travel Advice
Elsewhere on the network, the Bakerloo line is also contending with minor delays due to a number of train cancellations. Services are running, but passengers will notice longer gaps between trains.
TfL is urging all customers to monitor live travel updates closely and to consider alternative routes where possible. Engineers are working to resolve the various faults and restore a normal service as quickly as possible. Further updates are expected throughout the morning.
