Commuters and weekend travellers in London are being warned to expect significant disruption across the Tube and Overground network this weekend due to a series of planned engineering works and fault repairs.
Major Line Closures and Station Shutdowns
The Metropolitan line will remain completely closed between Aldgate and Baker Street as engineers continue to work on a track fault. This stretch of line has been shut since Tuesday, October 28, but rail bosses have confirmed a full reopening is scheduled for Sunday, November 9. Passengers are advised to use the Bakerloo, Circle, Jubilee, and Hammersmith & City lines as alternatives for journeys into central London.
In a separate closure, Angel Tube station in Islington will be shut for the entire weekend on both Saturday, November 8 and Sunday, November 9. The shutdown is for essential infrastructure work. Travellers needing to reach the Angel area should alight at King's Cross St. Pancras and either walk or use local bus routes 205 or 214 to complete their journey.
Further Disruption Across the Network
The travel woes extend beyond the Underground. Network Rail track work will cause temporary closures on several Overground lines, primarily affecting West London services.
The Mildmay line will have no trains running between Willesden Junction and Clapham Junction on Sunday. Similarly, the Lioness line will see no service between Willesden Junction and Watford Junction on Sunday until 7.45am. For both of these closures, passengers are directed to use local bus services, with an additional bus route 718 laid on to help.
Other services facing disruption include the Weaver line, which will have no trains between Liverpool Street and Enfield Town, Cheshunt, and Chingford until 10:15am on Sunday. The Bakerloo line will be suspended between Stonebridge Park and Harrow & Wealdstone on Sunday until 7.45am. The Elizabeth line will also operate a reduced service between Paddington and Maidenhead/Heathrow T4 due to maintenance work.
Planning Your Weekend Journey
With multiple closures affecting key parts of the transport network, passengers are strongly encouraged to check their entire route before travelling. Allowing extra time for journeys and considering alternative routes, including buses, is highly recommended.
