Major London Train Station to Close Over Easter in Huge Disruption to Passengers
One of London's busiest railway stations, Euston, is set to close for nearly a week during the Easter break, causing significant travel chaos for passengers. The station, famous for its bustling 'Euston rush' as commuters dash to platforms, will shut for six days in April to allow Network Rail to conduct essential engineering works.
Euston will be closed from Good Friday, April 3, until Wednesday, April 8, resulting in the cancellation of all Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern Railway trains. National Rail has warned that all services between Euston, Scotland, the North West of England, and the West Midlands will terminate at Milton Keynes Central instead. During the closure, a rail replacement bus service will operate between Milton Keynes and Euston to mitigate the impact on travelers.
Advice for Passengers and Airport Travel
Chris Liptrot, Avanti's operations director, emphasized the need for advance planning. 'While Network Rail carries out this essential work, we'll be operating an amended timetable with journeys to and from London Euston involving changes or rail replacement buses,' he said. 'We strongly advise customers making journeys to or from London Euston between 3 and 8 April to plan ahead and check the National Rail website before travelling.'
For those heading to airports for Easter getaways, slight changes are expected on some routes. Heathrow Airport trains will have a delayed start on Sunday, while on the Stansted route, tracks will be closed between Stratford and Tottenham Hale until 6pm daily, requiring travel via London Liverpool Street.
Other London Rail Closures During Easter
In addition to Euston, other parts of London's rail network will face disruptions. A reduced service will run between Waterloo and Clapham Junction stations due to railway works from Good Friday to Monday, April 6, with passengers needing to change trains at Clapham Junction. Queenstown Road Battersea station will also shut over the Easter weekend.
List of Easter Tube and Other TfL Closures
While most Tube lines will operate as usual, several routes will be closed for maintenance works in early April. Key closures include:
- London Underground: Hammersmith & City line closed from April 3-6; Bakerloo line closed from Stonebridge Park to Harrow & Wealdstone (April 3-6) and from Queen's Park to Harrow & Wealdstone (April 4-5); District line no service from Whitechapel to Upminster and Earl's Court to Kensington (Olympia) from April 3-6; Northern line no service between Camden Town and Kennington via Bank after 10pm until late spring.

Passengers are urged to check the National Rail and TfL websites for the latest updates and plan their journeys carefully to avoid delays during this period of extensive engineering works.
