British Transport Police (BTP) have issued an urgent public appeal to identify a man wanted in connection with a sexual assault at a major London Underground station.
Details of the Finsbury Park Station Attack
The incident occurred on the platform at Finsbury Park station in North London at around 10pm on Thursday, 5 December. A man sexually assaulted a woman on the platform. When the victim moved to escape her attacker, the man spat at her before boarding a train and leaving the station.
Over a month later, the suspect remains at large. Detectives have now released a CCTV image of a person they urgently need to trace, stating he may hold vital information for their investigation.
Description of the Man and How to Help
The individual pictured is described as a man of medium build and height, with a short dark beard. He was wearing a black zip-up jacket, black trousers, and black shoes at the time. His hair was covered by a black hat, but he appears to either be bald or have very short hair.
Anyone who recognises the man is asked to contact BTP immediately by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 791 of 5 December. Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
The Context of Sexual Offences on the Tube
This appeal comes as authorities highlight the ongoing issue of sexual offences on London's transport network. According to Transport for London figures, there were 595 sexual offences reported across all Tube lines in the 2024-25 period.
The Central line recorded the highest number at 124, followed by the Northern line with 104 and the Victoria line—which serves Finsbury Park—with 92 incidents. In a separate case, BTP are also working to identify a man who sexually assaulted a woman on a rush hour train between Stratford and Liverpool Street stations.
