Millions of Londoners and visitors making their final journeys before Christmas will need to plan carefully, as Transport for London (TfL) confirms earlier finishes and partial closures across the network on December 24.
Which Tube Lines Are Running on Christmas Eve?
All eleven lines of the London Underground will be operational for most of Christmas Eve, providing vital connections for last-minute shopping, festive gatherings, and travel home. However, passengers should be aware of two significant partial closures that will be in effect throughout the day.
The Piccadilly line will be closed between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge, while the District line will have no service running between Earls Court and Kensington Olympia. Travellers needing these specific sections should seek alternative routes in advance.
Early Finishes and Reduced Services
From 8pm onwards, services across the entire network will begin to wind down earlier than on a typical weekday evening. This is to allow staff to travel home to their own families for Christmas.
A key closure to note is that the Waterloo and City Line will shut after 10pm. This early finish is particularly important for commuters and those working in the City to factor into their plans.
Planning Your Festive Travel
With Christmas Eve always proving to be one of the busiest nights of the year on the Tube, combined with these planned alterations, allowing extra time for journeys is strongly advised. Checking the TfL website or app for real-time updates on the night is recommended to avoid any last-minute disruption to your festive plans.
Whether you're heading to a church service, a family dinner, or finally making your way home for the holidays, being aware of these schedule changes will ensure a smoother end to your Christmas preparations.
