Aldi's Belletti Hugo Spritz and Peach Spritz, priced at £3.99 per bottle, have become viral sensations this summer, with shoppers flocking to stores and frequently selling them out. The German retailer's pre-mixed cocktails are challenging M&S's dominance in the category, according to social media buzz.
What Are Aldi's Viral Spritzes?
The two drinks, part of Aldi's Belletti range, include a classic Hugo Spritz made with aromatised wine, elderflower, and mint, and a Peach Spritz featuring peach-flavoured sparkling aromatised wine. Both have an ABV of 6.9%, making them light, easy-to-drink options. A 250ml can version is also available for £1.29.
Shoppers Compare Aldi and M&S
TikTok user @inslusiwellness declared the Aldi Hugo Spritz 'sooooo much nicer than the M&S one.' Another user, @teriimelda, also preferred Aldi's version, describing it as 'sweeter' with a stronger elderflower taste. @TheIvyHouse called the Hugo Spritz their 'all-time favourite,' noting the price: 'I picked this up for less than £4!! RUN to Aldi.' They added: 'When I say this drink is refreshing, I mean this drink literally makes you want to savour every mouthful. Summery, fresh, and blooming delicious!'
How Customers Are Enjoying Them
Many are elevating the drinks with additions. Ellie (@elliemcadams5) shared a video of adding ice, mint, and cucumber to wine glasses, pouring the Hugo Spritz, then topping with prosecco. Others use lemonade or soda water instead of prosecco. However, not all feedback is positive: @ajhome2000 found the Hugo Spritz 'weak and tasteless,' and @charlsclosed_xo said it 'tastes like a white wine.'
Metro's Verdict
Metro's reviewer tested both spritzes. The Peach Spritz was described as 'very sweet and fruity,' ideal for those wanting a drink that doesn't taste alcoholic, and improved with dry prosecco. The Hugo Spritz was also sweet but with a stronger wine taste, enhanced with sparkling water and lime. The reviewer concluded: 'Are these the best drinks I've ever had? No... But they're cheap and cheerful, and at £3.99 a bottle, I can totally see why people are enjoying them.'
