Dumplings & Baos, a Chinese restaurant at 31 Clapham Park Road in Clapham, South London, has permanently closed after a food hygiene inspection uncovered a large amount of mice droppings in the kitchen and main seating area. The restaurant, which previously held a 4.7 average rating from 468 Google reviews, is now listed as 'permanently closed' on Google, and its phone number is no longer working.
Zero hygiene rating after March inspection
Following an inspection on March 26, 2026, by Lambeth Council's Environmental Health team, the restaurant received a food hygiene score of 0 out of 5, the lowest possible rating. The business voluntarily closed after the inspection, a common step while hygiene issues are addressed, but it has now shut permanently.
A full report, released after a Freedom of Information request from the Local Democracy Reporting Service, detailed the findings. The inspector noted pest activity, specifically mice droppings, in multiple areas: next to the wok cooker, next to the upright fridge, under the sinks in the kitchen, on a shelf, on food trays, under the oven, and under a table in the bao bun preparation area within the restaurant seating area.
Cross-contamination and cleaning concerns
Inspectors also found noodles and cooked chicken cooling in the outside rear area, which they warned could lead to cross-contamination of cooked products. The standard of cleaning in the bar area was described as 'very poor', with dirt and debris on the floor.
The report stated: 'The premises was voluntary closed due to large amount of mice droppings found in the kitchen and around the food preparation area in the restaurant area.' Inspectors instructed the restaurant to immediately clean and disinfect all affected areas and to monitor them regularly. They also required that all food be kept inside while cooling to prevent contamination.
