British Transport Police confirmed that officers were called to Farringdon station at 9:42 AM on April 30 following reports of a suspected gas leak. A small number of passengers reported feeling unwell, prompting the evacuation. Police, ambulance services, and fire brigade are in attendance.
A spokesperson for the force said the presence of armed officers at the scene is a standard response for such incidents. National Rail warned that disruption is expected until 11:45 AM, with no trains stopping at the station while emergency services complete their work.
Commuters Affected
One commuter reported being unable to leave his office due to the emergency cordon outside the station on Cowcross Street. In a social media post, he described the scene with armed police present.
The London Ambulance Service has been approached for comment. The station remains closed as investigations continue.
