A tragic mid-air collision between two helicopters in New Jersey has resulted in one fatality and left a second person fighting for their life with critical injuries.
Emergency Response to the Crash Scene
The devastating incident occurred shortly before 11:25 am local time on Sunday, 29 December 2025, near the Hammonton Municipal Airport. Hammonton police chief Kevin Friel confirmed that emergency services rushed to the scene following reports of an aviation crash.
Video footage captured the horrifying moment one of the aircraft was seen spinning rapidly out of control before impacting the ground. Police and fire crews worked to extinguish flames that had engulfed one of the helicopters upon arrival.
Details of the Aircraft and Casualties
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has identified the involved aircraft as an Enstrom F-28A helicopter and an Enstrom 280C helicopter. Authorities confirmed that only the pilots were on board each aircraft at the time of the collision.
Tragically, one pilot was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was transported by emergency services to a nearby hospital, where they are being treated for life-threatening injuries.
Ongoing Investigation into the Cause
Chief Friel stated that both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will be investigating the crash. Their probe will seek to determine the precise circumstances that led to the two helicopters colliding in the airspace over the municipal airport.
Such investigations are standard procedure for serious aviation accidents and will involve examining wreckage, flight paths, maintenance records, and pilot communications to establish a cause.
