Dragons' Den success story Sprive, a mortgage overpayment app, has reached a valuation of £5 million and achieved a rare milestone by becoming the most downloaded finance app in the UK following its appearance on the BBC show.
Founder reveals 'very rare' achievement
Jinesh Vohra, a former Goldman Sachs director and founder of Sprive, told the Finanser: 'It was the most downloaded finance app in the UK on the back of Dragon's Den, which I didn't really expect. It's something I'm very happy about as it's not something that is easily achievable. We were the sixth most downloaded app across all apps in the UK, post Dragon's Den. It's very rare.'
The free app, which launched in 2021, helps homeowners pay off their mortgages faster by earning cashback from everyday spending at partner brands including John Lewis. Users can put up to £25 a month towards their mortgage, potentially saving thousands in interest.
Three Dragons invested in Sprive
During the episode aired in February 2026, Vohra secured investment from three Dragons: Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden, and Touker Suleyman. He offered 5% equity for £50,000 funding. Peter Jones remarked in the den: 'The power of three Dragons and the Dragons you've got – that's pretty serious.'
Vohra initially wanted all five Dragons but two backed out. He told BBC Radio's Desi Stories in March: 'I wanted five, but unfortunately two Dragons backed out. The Dragons have so much trust. When it comes to financial services, trust is so important. I've never built a business. I had a corporate job. To get three was just amazing and the three Dragons who have been on the show for a long time, it's just out of this world.'
Pre-show funding and growth
Before appearing on Dragons' Den, Sprive had already closed a £5.5 million funding round from investors, according to Fintech Finance News. Vohra emphasized that the post-show growth is not temporary: 'We've definitely seen growth that is just incredible, and I don't think it's a temporary blip. I think we're getting to new levels where we're continuing to see sustained growth and momentum on the back of that, and much due to that initial kind of exposure.'
The app works with over 2,500 brands, allowing users to earn cashback from groceries, coffee, and takeaways, which is then applied to their mortgage. Sprive also actively searches for better mortgage deals for its customers.
Impact on mortgage overpayments
Vohra highlighted the financial impact: 'Most people don't realise, a lot of people taking out mortgages now, for every £1 you borrow, it can be £3 in interest. It's scary amounts over the lifetime of a mortgage. If you think about it, most people spend a lot of what they earn. When you can turn every single shop into a mortgage overpayment, it's massively impactful.'
Dragons' Den airs on BBC One and is available on iPlayer.
