Prince William has become a billionaire and is now wealthier than his father, King Charles III, according to newly published annual accounts for the Sovereign Grant. William's net worth is estimated at £1.2 billion, largely derived from the Duchy of Cornwall, which he inherited upon becoming heir to the throne four years ago. In contrast, King Charles III was listed with a personal fortune of £640 million in the Sunday Times Rich List.
Income and Tax Contributions
William received a private income of £21.6 million from the Duchy of Cornwall in 2025-26, an increase of £30 million from the previous year. He has also paid over £20 million in tax since becoming Prince of Wales. Specifically, his tax contributions included £7.76 million in income and capital gains tax in 2024-25 and £8.34 million in 2023-24. The Sovereign Grant, funded by the Treasury, supports the royal household's official duties, and both King Charles and William have disclosed their private tax payments to enhance transparency.
Dartmoor Prison Rent Decision
William recently decided to stop personally benefiting from the controversial £1.5 million annual rent generated by the abandoned Dartmoor Prison. This move aligns with his efforts to maintain ethical financial practices.
Royal Residences Update
Earlier this week, it was revealed that King Charles and Queen Camilla will not move into Buckingham Palace despite the completion of £370 million worth of refurbishment work next year. The 10-year renovation plan is nearly finished, but Charles has chosen Clarence House as his official London residence for the remainder of his reign. A palace spokesperson stated, 'His Majesty retains huge affection for Buckingham Palace and a deep respect for its role in royal and public life. It will be a buzzing hive of royal activity in every other way.'
Public Appearances
Earlier this month, Prince William attended Royal Ascot with The Princess of Wales. The couple arrived in a carriage at the Berkshire event, greeting crowds. This appearance followed recent reports on the evolving relationship between King Charles and Prince William, as well as tributes from William's children on his birthday.
