Emmerdale Shock: Ray's Body Found, Two Suspects Under Pressure in ITVX Release
Emmerdale: Ray's Body Found, Suspects in Spotlight

The quiet Yorkshire Dales were shattered by a grim discovery in the latest episode of Emmerdale, released early on ITVX. Police descended on the village after the body of Ray Walters (Joe Absolom) was found, sending shockwaves through the community and placing two key figures squarely in the frame.

A Village Interrupted by Police

Residents' mornings were abruptly disturbed by the arrival of multiple police cars on Friday, January 12, 2026. The officers were continuing their investigation into Celia Daniels' (Jaye Griffiths) activities. While DS Walsh headed to the haulage depot, DC Stewart visited Butlers Farm to question Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb).

With Moira absent, collecting Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) from hospital, Stewart instead spoke to Robert and Victoria Sugden (Ryan Hawley and Isabel Hodgins). The conversation centred on Moira and any potential knowledge of Celia's schemes.

A Chilling Discovery at the Depot

At the depot, DS Walsh questioned Caleb Miligan (William Ash) and Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) about alleged drug movements on the premises. Caleb was confident the search would yield nothing, given a previous recent inspection.

That confidence was brutally shattered when DS Walsh opened a van and discovered Ray Walters' dead body inside. The immediate suspicion fell on Jai, who was the last person seen driving the vehicle. A panicked Jai vehemently protested his innocence to both Caleb and the detective, but the circumstances looked deeply incriminating.

Shockwaves and Suspicious Behaviour

News of the murder spread rapidly. Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) broke the news in the café, unaware that Ray's lover, Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy), was listening behind him. Laurel later assured Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) she would cope, but Nicola remained sceptical.

Laurel's subsequent behaviour raised more questions. In a highly suspicious moment, she was seen in the back of The Hide, wearing gloves and disposing of Ray's distinctive red bag in a bin. This clandestine act strongly suggests she is hiding crucial evidence.

Back at the crime scene, Jai theorised that Celia killed her own son, but Caleb logically countered that she couldn't have moved the body alone. As Caleb mused that the killer must be someone "closer to home," the audience was shown Laurel's damning actions.

The Mystery Builds Towards a Reveal

Show boss Laura Shaw has promised a dramatic resolution. "Following the discovery of Ray’s body, villagers’ secrets will come out as the mystery surrounding Ray’s death is finally solved," she explained.

"Before the end of January, a special week will flash back to the night of the murder, revealing which of the multiple suspects is responsible for Ray’s demise."

With Jai linked to the van and Laurel caught hiding potential evidence, the pressure on both is intense. As the police investigation unfolds, Emmerdale is set for a gripping whodunnit that will expose the village's darkest secrets.
