For the vast majority of Londoners, the idea of boarding the Underground wearing nothing but your underwear is the stuff of pure nightmares. Yet, for a dedicated and slightly eccentric few, it marks the highlight of the social calendar. The infamous No-Trousers Tube Ride is set to make its peculiar return to the capital's transport network this month.
When and Where is the 2026 No-Trousers Tube Ride?
The event is scheduled for Saturday 11 January 2026. Participants are asked to gather, fully clothed, in Chinatown from 2.45pm. The plan is to then move to a nearby Tube station in groups shortly after 3pm, where the main event – the trouser removal – will commence.
How Does the Bizarre Event Work?
The mechanics are deliberately simple. Attendees meet, are organised into groups, and descend onto the Tube network. There, they shed their trousers or skirts to travel for a few stops clad only in their underwear, before nonchalantly re-dressing and going about their day. Participation is free, though a standard Tube fare is required.
Organisers, who rally ‘fun lovers, exhibitionists, bucket list tickers and inquisitive introverts’ via a Facebook group, are clear on two key rules. Firstly, underwear is mandatory – commuters on the Northern Line have their limits. Secondly, participants are asked to keep their underpants ‘as normal or low-key as possible’ to sell the illusion of having simply forgotten a crucial step when getting dressed.
What's the Point of It All?
In a city brimming with fundraising runs and awareness campaigns, this event stands out for its sheer pointlessness. It is not a protest against Transport for London, nor a deliberate attempt to shock tourists. The organisers insist the goal is simply harmless, surreal fun. The aim is to inject an unexpected moment of bewildered laughter into the daily commute, as dozens of trouser-less individuals board a carriage with absolute nonchalance.
While it may seem like the peak of London's weirdness, it isn't even the capital's most daring annual undress. That title likely still belongs to the World Naked Bike Ride, which is expected to roll through the city again in the summer. For now, the No-Trousers Tube Ride offers a uniquely British blend of mild exhibitionism and deadpan humour.
