A new and deeply dangerous psychopath has arrived on the cobbles of Weatherfield, and her sights are set firmly on the Platt family. Jodie Ramsay (Olivia Frances-Brown) has swiftly emerged as Coronation Street's next major antagonist, with a bitter vendetta against her own sister, Shona Platt (Julia Goulding).
A Sister's Sinister Agenda
Jodie made a dramatic first appearance during the Corriedale crossover event, escaping from a van after being held by Emmerdale's Graham Foster. Viewers quickly spotted a matching tattoo linking her to Shona, a connection confirmed when Jodie revealed herself as Shona's long-lost sister. While David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) welcomed her, Shona remained deeply suspicious, especially with newborn baby Harper's health concerns.
Jodie, however, spoke of a fated reunion. "I can’t help thinking there’s a reason I found you again," she told Shona. "Like the universe bringing us together or summat." The universe, it seems, has a cruel plan. Upcoming episodes will expose Jodie's true motive: she blames Shona for abandoning her to their toxic parents and is now hell-bent on revenge.
Lily Platt Becomes the Pawn
Jodie's chosen weapon for this vengeance is Shona's vulnerable step-daughter, Lily Platt (Grace Ashcroft Gardner). In episodes airing on Monday, January 22, Jodie cunningly volunteers to help Lily with a self-portrait. She uses this bonding time to drip poison into the teenager's ear, systematically blackening Shona's name.
Her campaign continues on Wednesday, January 23, but is interrupted in the café by the arrival of Kit Green (Jacob Roberts). Jodie flees in a panic, raising immediate questions about what she is hiding. When a wary Shona questions Kit, he reveals a shocking sight: Jodie was in the woods on the night of the crash, her wrists bound, and she appeared to be running from someone in terror.
Layers of Lies and Trauma
Jodie's story grows more complex as she attends a domestic violence support group, listening intently to a woman named Ellie's harrowing story. Soon after, Shona and David receive a frantic call from Bethany, stating Jodie is having a meltdown in their house. As Jodie emotionally unloads, viewers and Shona alike are left to wonder: Is her trauma genuine, or is it all an elaborate act to punish her sister?
Coronation Street's Executive Producer, Kate Brooks, sheds light on the fraught dynamic. "She’s a complicated character and she comes with a lot of baggage," Brooks explains. "Their relationship as sisters is quite fraught and there’s a lot of history between them. There’s some kind of deep-seated resentment there as well."
Brooks teases that Jodie is a troublemaker with mischief in her eyes, warning that all is not as it seems. "Keep an eye on her because there’s lots of secrets to explode and she’s going to bring an awful lot of drama to the Platt household." With Jodie Ramsay now embedded in their lives, the Platt family is facing a threat from within that could tear them apart.
