EastEnders actor Danny Dyer is reportedly set to join the cast of the second series of the hit BBC show, The Celebrity Traitors. The news comes as another major TV personality, Alison Hammond, is also said to be in talks to appear.
Dyer's Change of Heart
According to sources, the 48-year-old actor was initially approached for the show's debut series but turned down the invitation. However, after watching the "fun and games" of the first series, which was won by comedian Alan Carr, Dyer is now keen to participate.
A source told The Sun: "Danny was always top of The Celebrity Traitors wish list but had zero interest until seeing the fun and games last autumn. As soon as his tune changed, it was all systems go."
The insider added that Dyer is a "reality TV booker's dream signing" and will offer a different kind of humour to the previous winner, Alan Carr. Filming is scheduled to take place in the Scottish Highlands later this year.
Alison Hammond Also in the Frame
Meanwhile, This Morning and Great British Bake Off presenter Alison Hammond is reportedly at the very top of the BBC's wishlist for the new series. Last November, Hammond expressed her desire to be a "Faithful" if she ever got the chance to play the game.
Sources suggest that the popular television host could soon be heading to Scotland to film the programme, adding another big name to the celebrity line-up.
Dyer's Game Strategy
Danny Dyer has previously spoken about the show on his podcast, Live and Let Dyer. He explained his understanding of the game's mechanics, stating it involves "a lot of lying" and manipulation.
"If you're a Faithful, it's hard, you're trying to overact that you're a Faithful and it backfires on you," he said. Dyer also revealed that if the money was right, he would want to be a Traitor, calling it the more fun role with its double and triple bluffs.
The first celebrity series proved to be a major success for the BBC, building on the enormous popularity of the civilian version, which continues to pull in millions of viewers per episode.
