Beyoncé surprises fans with new song 'Morning Dew (Donk)' after two-year hiatus
Beyoncé drops surprise single 'Morning Dew (Donk)'

Beyoncé has once again proven to be the queen of surprises, dropping a new song out of the blue this weekend and sending fans into hysteria. The Grammy-winning music icon, 44, released the track Morning Dew (Donk) on July 4, 2026, to mark the Independence Day holiday and another special anniversary.

First new music in two years

The single is Beyoncé's first new music in two years, following her acclaimed 2024 album Cowboy Carter, which was praised for its genre-blending and spotlighting Black pioneers' contributions to American music. That album was the second in a planned trilogy, following Renaissance (2022). According to a press release, the release of Morning Dew (Donk) starts a 60-day countdown to Beyoncé's next birthday and the re-issue of B'DAY, her groundbreaking second album from 2006.

Songwriting and fan connection

The track was written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream, and Darius Dixon. It is a nod to the Beyhive, as an unreleased song called Donk had surfaced online in 2013, originally intended for her self-titled studio album. That earlier version was also written by Beyoncé, The-Dream, and Pharrell. The new release feels very much 'for the fans,' according to the press release.
