Miranda Hart has arrived in the Scottish Highlands for the filming of The Celebrity Traitors season 2, accompanied by her rarely seen husband, Richard Fairs. The comedian, 53, is among 20 famous faces entering the castle for Claudia Winkleman's game show.
Who Is Miranda Hart's Husband?
Miranda is married to 60-year-old Richard Fairs, a surveyor who owns The Building Consultancy. The couple met during lockdown in 2020 when he cleared mould from her house. Richard proposed next to a lake in Kew Gardens, West London, and Miranda immediately burst into tears, saying yes before he finished speaking. They married in July 2024 at St Peter and St Paul church in Hambledon, celebrating with a Hawaiian-themed party.
Miranda kept the marriage secret until October 2024, revealing it in her memoir I Haven't Been Entirely Honest With You: 'He's not my boyfriend. He's my husband. We got married when I was 51.' She referred to him as 'Mould Man' or 'The Boy from Bristol' in the book.
Why Did Miranda Hart Disappear from the Public Eye?
Miranda revealed in 2024 that she had been chronically ill for three years with Lyme disease, likely contracted when she was 14 or 15. The illness left her bed-bound and house-bound with ME/CFS, reactivating viral infections like shingles. Doctors dismissed her symptoms as anxiety and agoraphobia for decades.
On relaunching her career, she told the BBC: 'Once you've been bed-bound with a fatigue-based illness, you miss life a lot. I'm really keen to get back to some silliness now.'
