Former X Factor contestant and Happy Mondays singer Rowetta Satchell has reassured fans with a positive update after being rushed to hospital for an unexpected surgery.
Hospital Stay and Surgery
The 59-year-old musician took to social media to explain her situation from her hospital bed at St Mary's, where she had been transferred from Trafford. Rowetta confirmed she had successfully come out of surgery and expressed her gratitude to the medical team who stepped in at the last minute.
In her posts, she wrote: "Sorry for not replying to everyone's texts, calls and messages. I've been transferred from Trafford to St Mary's (who have been wonderful) this morning, so hopefully home tomorrow."
She later added: "Big love and thanks to St Mary's for stepping in last minute. Came out of surgery smiling. What a wonderful team. Back on the ward now, morphined up for the pain, but - all went well, home tomorrow and should be good to sing again next week."
Fan Support and Career Context
The singer has not disclosed the nature of her medical condition, but this isn't her first hospital stay in recent years. She revealed she was in hospital for another operation two years ago.
Fans quickly flooded her Instagram with supportive messages. One follower commented: "Sending love and healing vibes," while another wrote: "Sending you all my love and best wishes Ro x." A third fan similarly added: "Sending get well wishes."
This health scare comes after Rowetta announced her sudden departure from Happy Mondays in December 2024, ending a 34-year association with the band. She first joined the Manchester band in 1990 and served as a guest artist throughout the group's various breakups and reunions.
From Manchester Clubs to National Fame
Before finding national fame, Rowetta was a regular fixture on the Manchester music scene. Her big break came in 2004 when she appeared on The X Factor in the over-25s category.
Her powerful performances earned her glowing reviews throughout the competition. She eventually finished in fourth place and was the last remaining woman in the contest.
When Happy Mondays reformed in 2012, Rowetta rejoined original band members Shaun Ryder and Bez for their reunion tour. Her distinctive vocals have been an integral part of the band's sound for decades, making her health update particularly concerning for long-time fans of the Manchester music legend.
