Emmerdale star James Hooton has given fans a rare glimpse into his family life, sharing a heartfelt update about his eldest daughter, Lily. The actor, 52, who has played Sam Dingle on the ITV soap since 1995, took to Instagram this week to announce that Lily is setting off on an ambitious solo journey.
Proud Father Moment
Alongside a sweet family photo, James revealed in the caption that Lily would be away for 78 nights, visiting countless countries. He wrote: 'Last family breakfast before Lily heads off on her travels! 78 nights away and countless countries to be visited! Can't wait to chart her journey and hear her stories. Mixed emotions but SO proud that she's arranged and funded it all herself! Conceive, believe, achieve.'
The post quickly garnered supportive comments from followers, with many sharing their own travel experiences. One user commented: 'My daughter went travelling in her gap year and it was honestly the best thing! She experienced so much and as a parent, it was amazing seeing where she was and what she was doing. V proud. Lily will have the best time!' Another wrote: 'Ohh shes going to have the BEST time. Literally will change her life! Ps. Can she take me with her?'
Former Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher also showed his support with a love heart emoji in the comments section.
Life on the Soap
Meanwhile, James's on-screen alter ego Sam Dingle is never short of drama. He is married to Lydia Dingle (Karen Blick) and is currently helping his brother Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) launch their new Dingle Farm. In 2024, Sam and Lydia's son Samson Dingle (Sam Hall) was arrested and sentenced after an ordeal that saw innocent Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano) spend time behind bars.
Off-screen, James regularly shares glimpses of his life beyond the soap. On Facebook, he frequently posts fitness videos, sometimes featuring co-stars Jack Downham and Shebz Miah in paddle matches.
