Manhunt Intensifies for Suspect Who Escaped Croydon Court Mid-Hearing
The Metropolitan Police have launched a public appeal for information regarding a suspected drug dealer who has been on the run for 13 days after escaping from Croydon Crown Court during a hearing. Abu Faye, 26, from Hackney, managed to flee the courtroom on Tuesday, March 17, and has evaded capture ever since.
Details of the Escape
Faye was caught on camera escaping from court room 8 at approximately 4pm on March 17. He made his way out of the building on foot without being apprehended. At the time of his escape, he was wearing an all-black tracksuit, has dreadlocks, and is described as tall. Police have noted that he has known links to the areas of Penge and Cambridge.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Prior to his escape, Faye had been charged with five counts of possession with intent to supply drugs, as well as five counts of possession of Class A and Class B drugs. He had pleaded guilty to the latter five charges, and the judge had ordered him to be held on remand. His escape occurred while the hearing was still ongoing, adding a layer of urgency to the police investigation.
Police Response and Public Warning
A spokesperson for the Met Police stated, "Met detectives have been conducting urgent enquiries, including analysing CCTV, and are working at pace to locate him." The police are urging the public not to approach Faye if he is spotted. Instead, anyone who sees him or has any information should call 999 immediately. This warning is critical for public safety, as Faye remains at large and potentially dangerous.
Context and Recent Incidents
This incident follows closely on the heels of another high-profile escape. Less than a month ago, double-escapee Daniel Boakye was arrested in France after escaping custody. The recurrence of such escapes highlights ongoing challenges in court security and prisoner management. The Met Police are intensifying efforts to prevent similar incidents in the future, but for now, the focus remains on locating Abu Faye.
The manhunt continues as authorities work tirelessly to bring Faye back into custody. The public's assistance is deemed vital in this effort, with police emphasizing the importance of immediate reporting through emergency channels.
