Ex-Chelsea Captains Terry and Wise Back Controversial Benefit Policy for Migrants
Ex-Chelsea Captains Back Migrant Benefit Ban

Former Chelsea captains John Terry and Dennis Wise have publicly endorsed a controversial policy proposed by Restore Britain leader Rupert Lowe, calling for a ban on foreigners claiming benefits and the deportation of migrants who cannot financially support themselves.

Social Media Endorsement

In an Instagram post featuring a clip of Lowe speaking in the House of Commons, he wrote: 'We should ban foreigners from claiming benefits, and remove migrants who are incapable of financially supporting themselves – use those many saved billions to slash tax for the British men and women keeping the economy running. Restore Britain would do exactly that, and put our own people first. Finally.'

Former England star Terry responded with '100 per cent yes,' while Wise, another ex-Chelsea captain, added '200 per cent'. Wise, who captained Chelsea from 1993 to 2001, is the club's second most successful captain after Terry.

Previous Controversies

This is not the first time Terry has backed a contentious policy. Last month, he appeared to endorse a proposal to ban the burqa in public spaces. Lowe, a former Southampton chairman, also stated he would outlaw foreign language signs at stations.

Terry's latest support drew criticism, but Lowe defended him, saying: 'I see that England/Chelsea legend John Terry is taking some flak for applauding Restore Britain's policy of banning the burqa and ensuring that all London stations use English, and English only. This is the position the vast majority of the British people support.'

Terry's Current Role

Since retiring, Terry has worked as an assistant manager at Aston Villa and returned to Chelsea in 2022 as a consultancy role with the academy. Reports suggest he is in talks with Colchester United over a potential takeover. Meanwhile, Chelsea is searching for a new permanent manager after sacking Liam Rosenior, with interim boss Calum McFarlane leading the team. Terry revealed he 'did not get a call' from Chelsea's decision-makers regarding a coaching role for the final games of the season.
