Thousands of people are calling for 'Justice for Jameson' after a family dog was shot dead by police responding to a welfare check. Jameson, a 2-year-old golden retriever, Saint Bernard and poodle mix, was seen in distressing footage lying motionless in a New York Knicks jersey as a dozen officers stand opposite.
Owner's Heartbreak
His owner is seen crying over his body after LAPD officers shot him dead outside her apartment on Saturday. 'We were just so happy. We were just celebrating the Knicks. We were f****** celebrating the Knicks,' the woman screams. Her son said that his mother had simply been celebrating the Knicks' championship win and that Jameson 'was energetic but not violent'. 'He's such a good dog', the woman can be heard crying in the aftermath of the shooting.
Neighbor's Guilt
The neighbour who called police told reporters he now feels guilty but had a genuine concern for the woman. A memorial is growing in the hallway where neighbours watched Jameson die with 'Justice for Jameson' posts shared online.
Citywide Celebrations Turn Chaotic
Jubilant New York Knicks fans were celebrating their team's victory last night when gunshots and fires broke out and the celebration turned into chaos. Around the same time, thousands of World Cup fans took to the streets after the Morocco-Brazil match at New York-New Jersey Stadium wrapped up. Spectators of the game saw burning vehicles and heard gunshots around 42nd Street and Broadway. Fans began clashing with police, smashed windshields and mounted lightpoles and other structures to celebrate. More than 60 people were arrested, multiple NYPD officers were assaulted, a firearm was recovered, and five school buses were burned.
