Kensington Palace stated the princess, who celebrates her 44th birthday on Friday, specifically wanted to join in to thank the staff.
The royal pair surprised healthcare professionals during their tea break in a staff room funded by the Imperial Health Charity. They chatted informally with the workers about the seasonal pressures facing the health service.
